Pottery Summary for CA46

The pottery recovered from CA46 came entirely from locus 1. This locus covered the entire trench and was the topsoil cut to an approximate depth of 15cm.b.d. The pottery concentration also increased as one moved north across the trench toward the rock outcropping in 7N 28-31W (see map, SJG I, p. 9 ). Also, all special finds were made in locus 1 in the north half of the trench.

The vast majority of this pottery is impasto, which comprises 78.6% of the total pottery. Also, almost all teh pottery is heavily worn, as was the terracotta. The heavy wear and increasing concentration against the limestone outcropping leads one to conclude that erosion is the strongest factor at work here. The soil beneath locus 1 was sterile and indicative of galestra further down, which further supports the conclusion that the material type, concentration, and location are due to erosion.
