Rain from last night prevented us from excavating deeper in the western end of our trench. Instead, meters E-F/101-102 were cleaned of topsoil and taken down roughly 20 cm below surface. (The western end of our trench in E/99 is down to 30 cm due to slope of the hill). Almost one cassetta of tile was found - all badly worn. Less than 1/4 of a latte box of pottery was found - coarseware and orangeware were the predominant wares.
To date, eight square meters have been taken down to a level roughly 20 cm above the level of the S.E. Building floor. The slope of the hill in the east-west direction causes a 10 cm difference in baulk height over these four meters. E/99 - E/102. These 8 meters E-F/99, 100, 101, 102 wil be taken down to floor level. The eastern half, meters E-F/101, 102 will then be taken lower in an effort to step the trench down the slope.
