AM

Opening elevations, Locus 2:

NW: 28.14 mAE

NE: 28.22 mAE

SE: 28.31 mAE

SW: 28.11 mAE

Continual removal of topsoil on the east side of the rock/stone feature. Progress with a large pick ax allowed for quicker pace than previously. Hand axes and trowles were used around rocks to define the rock or stone features, including their faces and depths. The goal of the AM period is to define the nature of the rock or stone, and whether it is bedrock or intentionally placed stone.

Locus 2 was defined, and it became clear that the stone/rock feature was indeed bedrock. With that understanding it was decided that Locus 1 and Locus 2 should be closed.

Locus 2 closing elevations:

NW: 28.05 mAE

NE: 28.22 mAE

SE: 28.31 mAE

SW: 28.10 mAE

Steps were taken to prepare Locus 2 and the bedrock features for drawings, photographs, and closing. Brushing, trimming, and baulk line definition were incorporated prior to documentation. Locus 1 was then closed as well. As Locus 1 and 2 were now equalized in elevation and stratigraphic layer, their shared bedrock feature and its surroundings became Locus 3, which was opened to demonstrate this relationship of Locus 1 and 2 and the east and west boundaries of the bedrock feature. Locus 3 will be opened with no excavation, only drawing and photographs.

Locus 3 opening elevations:

NW: 28.03 mAE

NE: 28.22 mAE

SE: 28.31 mAE

SW: 28.18 mAE

Locus 3 is defined by a 4m x 3m space (4 m east/west, and 3m north/south). It is the adjoining areas of Locus 1 and Locus 2 which include the bedrock feature.

Locus 3 was sketched and graphed after its features were measured and its coordinates recorded.

Then Loci 1, 2, and 3 were closed.

Closing elevations, Locus 1:

NW: 28.00 mAE

NE: 27.98 mAE

SE: 28.28 mAE

SW: 28.22 mAE

Closing elevations, Locus 2:

NW: 28.14 mAE

NE: 28.22 mAE

SE: 28.31 mAE

SW: 28.11 mAE

Closing elevations, Locus 3:

NW: 28.03 mAE

NE: 28.22 mAE

SE: 28.31 mAE

SW: 28.18 mAE

Locus 1, 2, and 3 were then sketched onto 19mm graph paper, and photos were taken.
