A.M.

A cut was made to roughly 35 cm below surface in J-K/78-79.  Soil remained brown in color with small stones throughout.  One cassetta of tile was found, as well as several pithos fragments.  Several soft white stones that resemble slingstones were found.  A quarter of a latte box was filled with coarseware pottery, including two large fragments of tubular handles.  One large chunk of baked terracotta with only one worked side came up as well.  Several pieces of bone were found.

A second cut to c. 40-45 cm was then made.  The soil was similar to that above it - the two baulks at the south and east of our cut clearly reveal that we are directly above a yellow stratum.  Our next cut should take us into it.

The western baulk at K is closer to 25 cm than 40 cm like the northern baulk at J, due to a slight slope in the ground surface.  One cassetta of tile was found from this cut.  A few slingstone-like rocks and a little pottery also came up.  Several rocks from K/78 came up.

Another cut was made in J-K/78-79 to roughly 50-55 cm below surface of the northern baulk.  Instead of the expected yellow soil, we came up with a flaky gray soil.  At this level, we started to find large pieces of tiles rather than the small fragments typical of higher strata.  Both cover and pan tile fragments were found.  Pottery was not abudant at this level, but a few pieces of fine wares were found.  Two cassetta of tile were filled.
