July 21, 1981
This morning we continue to remove topsoil, roots, and rocks from Trench U-V 17-23. Digging in the southern trenches gamma-zeta 15-18 and beta-zeta 20-22 has been suspended due to rain over the weekend. A layer of topsoil 30-40 cm. deep is taken out over the entire area of the trench. We begin cut 2 in U-V 23, bringing the depth down to 50-70 cm. The soil becomes a dense brown with fewer stones and roots and small fragments of tile and coarseware pottery are more frequent. .25 cassetta tiles, small frags. 1 box pottery coarseware
