The shelf of bedrock seems to be only an interruption in the fossa proper, an interruption in grids 18 and 19, for in grid 20 the trench deepens again.

An unidentifiable frieze fragment of cornice was excavated in MM26 *A(.

In Grids 28-29, GG-HH intersection was made with a test trench of Lauren Levy, 1969, Cast p.3. (For results of CA14 see Berg, BK 1 p. 39 ).  This trench was c.15 cm. wide and extended for approximately 5.0 m towards the west wall stopping about 6.8 m from it.

Another frieze cornice fragment was excavated in grid II21 at 1 m into Strat. B.

  • Large fragment of a bucchero krater
  • Belly is ribbed vertically defined at the bottom by a horizontal rib which bands the undecorated lower portion preserved. Ribbing is banded at top by an overhanging band of applied decoration preserving on this fragment a rampant lion within a rectangle bounded on left and right by a wide impressed rib and to its right a female head as found in 1968 and 1970 and next a gorgon with curled bangs and braided hair.  Lip is banded horizontally at top and bottom.  Three fragments of the lower band and gorgon face remained in the ground and were excavated directly after.
