Twelve boxes of tile were dumped this morning. Dur to the high density of objects, all the workmen were put to work on trench 2J for the afternoon while work in the magazino cought up. This area (bounded predmonately by trenches H and I, grids 4-8) has produced a great number of totally original and well-preserved objects. [See buccheroid applique rim, varriant head types, ridge pole tiles with feet etc.] This morning a well preserved T.C. 'siren\', complete except for hind quarters, legs and tail and app. 60cm. in height, 25 in width, was
excavated. Fine ringlets adorned the hair, a beautiful birds breast, crenellations suggesting wavy hair and a head and face reminiscent of the canopic urns in Chiusi. Trench 2J is 50% bed rock. The workmen have been instructed to clear along only the side of the side of the rock facing the here to excavated dump.
