The 1x2m area in the northwestern quadrant of the trench is being revisited to decrease the elevation to that in CA87. This was declared a new locus.
Locus 9
Opening photographs and elevations were taken for locus 9
NW (23 S, 25 E) – 27.13m AE
NE (23 S, 26 E) – 27.13m AE
SE (25 S, 26 E) – 27.14m AE
SW (25 S, 25 E) – 27.08m AE
Work continues in loci 6 and 8 defining the rock features and decreasing the elevation with handpicks and trowels.
A pick pass was made in locus 7 with a big pick axe.
Locus 9 is greyish brown soil just below topsoil. It contains a high concentration of roots and has rocks about 5-10cm in size. There appears to be a higher percentage of pottery in the locus deriving from the central area of the locus.

There also appears to be a heavier percentage of pottery from locus 8 coming from the central southern most area of the locus at the current elevation.

In the southwest corner of locus 8, there appears to be a patch of soil about half a meter in length and half a meter in width that feels more compact and slightly darker than the rest of the surrounding soil. It falls just south of the rock cluster along the western baulk wall of the locus and appears to lead into the southern baulk wall. We are avoiding excavation of the area for the time being.
Closing elevations were taken for loci 6-9.
