Work began following break by pulling the earth off the tile concentration in MN/76-81. Most of this area had been covered with plastic before being covered with sand-fill which greatly facilitated work.

In this area a tile concentration including many complete dimensions was cleared over the 1982-1984 seasons. This concentration lay over what appeared to be a rock packing. This packing lay more or less a meter to the north of the northernmost line of column bases (outside the building?). It is therefore hypothesized that if this concentration was indeed an undisturbed fall from the building, any decorative elements, ie heads, sima, should be found underneath the tile directly over the rock pack. It should be noted that a fumate head was found in the immediate area (see MT Book VI) as well as other architectual decoration nearby. To the end of unearthing any of these as well as lifting the preserved tiles this area will be cleared to the rock pack. A section will be taken to the west to determine if further excavation is necessary in that direction.

No finds.

Tile: 1/2; Pottery: Neg.

After the plasctic was cleared and lifted, the fall was further brushed and cleaned down. A number of fresh breaks occurred from soil removal but none on any of the important tiles. In genreal the condition appeared quite good. There was a fair amount of washout from the bulks which included some tile and plaster and a few pottery sherds. A rim fragment of an impasto bowl (pot) can be seen in M/77-78 right over the rock packing with tiles all around it. Photos documenting the state of preservation were taken at the end of the day.

No finds.
