Trench Layout
Trench layout
The boundaries of the trench will be the same as for the previous season. In 2007, the trench was laid out based on a line shot with a laser level. The northern boundary of T-46 was extended 10m to the east, and the two northern corners of T-48 were triangulated from this baseline. Once the two northern corners were established, the remaining corners of the trench were triangulated off of the two northern corners. In this fashion, a 3x4m trench was established with the NW corner at a location of 52S/194E.
T-48 is adjacent to T-23. In the 2007 season, T-48 was extended to include T-23. As T-23 was excavated prior to the establishment of the master grid system, the boundaries of T-23 do not exist on master grid lines; thus the eastern baulk wall of T-48 is not completely in line with the master grid. The coordinates of the four corners of the trench at the time of the start of the 2008 season are as follows:
- NW corner: 52S/194E
- NE corner: 52S/198E
- SE corner: 54.90S/198E
- SW corner: 55S/194E
A datum point with an absolute elevation of 28.19m will be established on a tree just to the south of the trench.
