Methodology

The intended method of excavation for the 2009 field season of CC7 is to use trowels to remove soil from around the rock formation to further expose its arrangement. After doing so, the fist sized rocks will be removed and trowels as well as picks will be used to excavate the layers beneath. Soil will be sorted in the trench into buckets before removed from the trench. All bulk terracotta found in the trench will be counted on site in bowls that are approximately 31cm in diameter and 8.5 cm in depth. This terracotta will be counted and recorded on site before dumped. The bulk terracotta as well as all soil removed from the trench will be placed in one of two dumps: a dump approximately 15 meters to the northwest of the trench and a dump approximately 10 meters to the east of the trench. All pottery and bone found within the trench will be placed in latte boxes which are approximately 23x9x6 cm. These finds will be taken down from the site to be sorted after dry brushing. The location of special

Finds within the trench will be recorded using coordinates that are on the master grid as well as elevations taken from a datum point of 22.62 mAE located on a stump beyond the southern baulk wall. The coordinates used refer to the master grid system est. in 1991 as described in TT1 p. 3
