Cleaning in meters K-M/82-85 over the past several workdays has better defined the tile fall in this area.  The true "fall" now appears to exist below an initial laryer of ery small tile fragments and a plaster layer.  Below the "tile fall", as mentioned previously, is a black burn layer.

Cleaning in this area has done more to reveal the initial layer of small tile fragments sitting on the plaster, rather than large fragments in the fall itself sitting below the plaster.  Work today will focus on removing the initial tile layer and working downward to the tile fall.

Work will also continue in J/83.  Yesterday's cut brought this meter to roughly 60 cm below surface.  (Top soil having been previously removed in other seasons makes the cut appear more shallow).  25 cm of soil still seperate the cut from the floor level of the S.E. Building floor.  The soil has become loose w/ an orange/red tint.  Blackened pottery and carbon chunks have been found.  Pottery quantities have dropped relative to the pottery found yesterday.  Still, a few fragments

have come out which are exactly like yesterdays: coarse orangeware.  These will belong to the same vessels in all likelyhood.  A large fragment of a beaten bronze object was found, in pieces.  Work progressed into grids J/82 and J/84.  Tiles in J/84 were lifted.  Slightly over two latte boxes of pottery were found by the time work stopped at 10:00 am due to rain.

PM

Cleaning of the tile fall in K-M/82-85 continued.  Large quantities of plaster were removed in order to expose the tile fall.  Many of these will be brought down to the mag.  One cassetta of tile was filled from the layer above the plaster.  One piece of incised ivory was found in L/83.  One fleck of bronze and very little pottery was found.

Work continued in J/84.  Many tile fragments were encountered and lifted.  These along w/ yesterday's tile from this area were saved in order to look for joins in the future.  Little pottery was found.  1/2 a latte box.
