Introduction

Excavation was begun in the doorway between rectangles 6 and 7, which were excavated respectively in 1970 ( IE II, p. 57 ) amd 1971 ( IE III, p. 1 ).  The doorway is thus in the center of the wall which served as south wall of rectangle 6 and north wall of rectangle 7.

The area to be excavated measures [no data].

Beacuse of the relatively small area to be excavated, the grid system will not be coordinated with those used in the excavation of rectangles 6 and 7.  Rather, the doorway will be divided into two areas, A and B, as shown on the plan on the opposite page ( see plan ).
