No work was done in T-25 this morning. Some "crabbing" was done in the dirt adhering to the bottom of the stump removed from beta/57 yesterday. A clump of fired clay was found near the base of the stump. The piece appears to have been modelled by hand -- finger impressions are visible. This may have been a test piece -- fired as an experiment.

P.M.

Cassette of tile = 3 1/2 (75% Plaster)

Boxes of Pottery = 1 1/2

The easternmost remaining "tile" (in gamma/57) was PVA'd by the conservator.

Work was done cleaning down to the floor in grids gamma-beta/57-58. The floor continues as far as excavation completed. As this area is outside the northern row of column bases, the floor should terminate at some point soon. The more north the digging goes, the higher the concentration of plaster and vitrified matter just on top of the floor becomes. Tiles are consistently present in this area, but almost no pottery was found.

Beta/53-54 1/2 was cut down to just above floor level. Tile was scattered throughout the cut, as was a large amount of plaster. The amount of plaster and vitrified matter increased with depth. There was quite a lot of vitrified matter as well as 1 1/3 boxes of pottery. Part of the floor in this area was actually uncovered -- it does continue and slopes upward somewhat along the line between grids beta and gamma.
