AM

The morning began with continued leveling in Locus 28 to reveal the shape and extent of the reddish compacted soil. Small handpicks, trowels, and brushes were used to level and clean loose soil. Light pink highly friable stone is included in the layer.

Excavation in Locus 26 in order to lower the level behind the carbon of Locus 30 in future by lifting it. To the south of Locus 30 the soil has become a compacted olive brown clay with decreasing amounts of materials. The area was lowered with a parge pickpass.

In Locus 24 the tiles continue to be defined in preparation for taking drone photos in the morning.

Locus 30 was defined on its southern edge using a small pick, a leaf trowel and brushes. The soil abutting Locus 30 was lowered ca. 10-15 cm in Locus 26. The compacted brown clay remains throughout the section in Locus 26 and is getting denser and wetter. A section was begun in the dark soil of Locus 30 to the north of the carbon deposit. The section is being excavated to lower the level of the soil on the other side of the carbon to aid in removing the carbon.

In Locus 28 the entire locus was leveled using trowels. The baulk walls were improved and the locus was swept.

PM

In the afternoon Locus 28 was prepped for photos in order to open the reddish-brown soil as a new locus. The reddish brown soil was drawn.

In Locus 24 defining tiles continues across the locus. In T103 excavation is focused along the eastern baulk wall of T26 in Locus 24. The well preserved tile fall in T26 does not appear to continue at the same level of preservation or concentration. Small and medium-sized tiles are beinf exposed to the east of the tile fall of Locus 24.

The tile fall was drawn on millimeter paper and a sketch in the book in preparation for removing the tiles.

The entire trench was swept of loose soil and cleaned for photos in the morning.
