Hand picks were used to define rocks, trim baulk walls and level the trench.

It was decided to open a sounding in the westernmost meter of the trench, The sounding was declared Locus 2 and opening photos were taken.
Locus 2 , opening elevations:
NW corner: 0.89 m BD / 28.85 m AE

SE corner: 0.96 m BD / 28.78 m AE
SW corner: 0.99 m BD / 28.75 m AE
Digging began in Locus 2 using the big pick. The soil in Locus 2 is identical to the soil in Locus 1 , brown in color and slightly claylike in texture. Every third bucket of soil will be sifted using a sieve with a gauge of 12 mm.
