Conclusion :

The excavation of CB 41 was partially successful, when the goals for the trench are considered. From this, no evidence of habitation, either of an \xe9 lite or non- \xe9 lite population was discovered. Furthermore the stone and Archaic period features recovered from trenches to the south-west of CB 41 (namely: CB 35, CB 38, and CB 39) does not extend down the slope. The lack of these features ultimately indicates that the rock and other features may be contained to that area of Civitate B or that, if it does, it extends in another direction. CB 41 does contribute somewhat to our understanding of the stratigraphy and topography of this area of Civitate B. A considerable amount of tile in the topsoil (Locus 1), and some pottery in both the topsoil and the lighter soil below (Locus 2), indicates that there was activity in the area in antiquity. Furthermore the discovery of a fragment of obsidian supports this conclusion. However the lack of any evidence which might support the identification of specific activities in the area suggests that this particular area of Civitate B saw a minimum of prolonged occupation in antiquity.
