Pottery Summary
Pottery Summary for T22 West Ext 2000 Season, 2256 fragments of baulk pottery were recovered from T22 west ext. The majority of this pottery was impasto and coarseware fragments. Bucchero and creamware fragments were found evenly through the loci, while only a few frags of grayware and orangeware were recovered. Locus 7, which is characteristically the medium to dark brown soil possibly representing the orientalising "burn" layer, contained the highest concentration of ceramic. Locus 2 produced a large amount of impasto which was heavily worn and fragmentary. The "plaster" layers of loci 5, 6, 7, and 8 also produced sizable amounts of pottery. Several ceramic finds were tracked which included one incises impasto fragement (KLHII p 29), one greyware ring base (KLHII p 37), and an impasto ring base (KLHII p 39) from Locus 2. Locus 3 produced 2 impasto rim fragments (KLHII p 53, 65), one impasto ring base (KLHII p 59), and one rochetto fragment (KLHII p 55),
No finds were tracked from Locus 4, but 2 rochetti fragments (KLHII pg 87, 93) and one creamware base fragment (KLHII p 87) were tracked from Locus 5. No finds were tracked from Locus 6. Locus 7 produced 3 fragments of decorated Italo-Corinthian (KLHII p 107, 111, 117), one rochetto fragment (KLHII p 107), 3 fragments of incised impasto (KLHII p 109, 111, 117), one frag of decorated ceramic (KLHII p 109), one crucible fragment (KLHII p 117), one spindle whorl (KLHII p 119), one look weight (KLH p 121), and one complete profile of a small impasto votive bowl (KLHII 121, 129). Locus 8 produced one spindle whorl fragment (KLHII p 123). Baulk wall trimming produced one spindle whorl fragment (KHII p 127) and one fragment of ridged pottery (KLHII p 129).
