A.M.

Excavation continued in locus 8 until a heavy concentration of stones was encountered. The entire area was swept and prepared for photographing. 1/2 cassetta of terracotta, mostly tile, was recovered. App. one latte box of pottery sherds was found consisting mostly of impasto but also some coarseware, cream ware, and redware. Some bone fragments, vitrified material, and bronze slag was found. The two pieces of bronze slag were made finds #1 and #3 along wiht a bronze nail (#2).

Some defining of terracotta was performaed in locus 6. 15 sherds of pottery were uncovered

consisting of mostly impastp, but also some bucchero/buccheroid. The defined terracotta was drawn and then lifted. 1/2 cassetta of terracotta was removed, 1/2 consisting of tile while the other 1/2 consisted of very thin fragments (app. 1cm in thickness). These thin fragments had one finished and one unfinished surface (#4).

Balk cleaning done in locus 8. App. 15 fragments of terracotta recovered. App. 1/3 latte box of pottery sherds recovered consisting mostly of impasto. One piece of vitrified material found. The depth reached is app 30cm in the North end and app 10cm in the South end. The meters C-M/5-6 has a heavy concentration of small stones (app.5-20cm in width). A light brown soil is still being found in meters K/5-6. The W half of meter K/6 has a pile of stones which appear to be a continuation fo the line of stones found in the meters directily N.

A locus 9 was established enclosing meters J/2-5. The purpose of this locus is to have a section through these meters to the N. Excavation was carried out from app. 40cm below datum point to  app 60cm. Meters J/2-3 was dug at this time. Large stones were encountered at the bottom (up to app 40cm in length)

App 2 cassettes of terracotta recovered consisting  mostly of tile but also some pithos fragments. One latte box of pottery sherds were found consisting mosly of impasto but also some coarseware and bucchero/buccheroid. A bronze

nail was found (#9). A piece of charcoal was found and some vitrified material. Two fragments fo what appears to be a bellows pipe were found. Some teeth were also found. The stones in J/S were drawn for their eventual removal
