Final Trench Summary

Excavations were undertaken within coordinates 50-51S 165-166E during the 2001 season to complete the investigation begun during the 2000 season. For a statement of goals see KLH p 3-7.

During this season 2 loci, 8 & 10, were excavated. Locus 8 was the more productive of the two. Most of the pottery recovered was impasto and coarseware. Bucchero was evenly distributed throughout locus 8, but only a couple of sherds were found in locus 10. For a more in depth discussion of the pottery recovery see p 337-351.

Metal recovery was confined to locus 8. Locus 10 produced only a single fragment of slag which came from the intial cut through locus 10. For more information see p 361.

Bone recovery was evenly distributed throughout locus 8 which also produced the heaviest concentration., Bone recovery in locus 10 was scattered. For more information see p 353.
