A.M.
The day started with a ca. 5 cm pick pass. An additional ca. 5 cm pick pass was also taken before the dig director came up. He confirmed that the trench had gone down the recommended 10 additional cm. We are not clearing and leveling the floor and defining the wall in preparation for photos.
In the NW of the trench near the wall a piece of plaster preserving two architectural surfaces (a reed impression on one side, a beam (?) impression on the other) was found.
Additional plaster which also appeared to preserve reed impressions though it did not appear to retain any beam impressions, was also found. These pieces (2) were found in the NE corner near the wall.
P.M.
After lunch work commenced with the removal of teh stump in the center of the trench. We continued to define the rock wall and to level the trench. During leveling an unusual object, apparently pottery, was discovered.
Work was also continued on the baulk walls in preparation for photos. Photos were then taken for Locus 3. Closing elevations for Locus 3 and for the main trench were as follows:
NW 105.5 cm b.d. 25.175 m absolute elevation
SW 136.5 cm b.d. 24.865 m absolute elevation
NE 136 cm b.d. 24.87 m absolute elevation
SE 159.5 cm b.d.* 24.635 m absolute elevation
center 143 cm b.d. 24.8 m absolute elevation
* It appears that the measurement of the SE corner taken on Friday was inaccurate, perhaps due to problems obtaining accurate measurements with the tape measure on such a steep slope.
Clearing of the brush of the area of the extension was completed and the lines for the extension were laid.
Opening elevations for the northern extension ( Locus 4 ) were as follows:
NW 0 cm b.d.* 26.23 m absolute elevation
SW 87 cm b.d. 25.36 m absolute elevation
SE 96 cm b.d. 25.27 m absolute elevation
NE 11 cm b.d. 26.12 m absolute elevation
center 33 cm b.d. 25.9 m absolute elevation
* The NW corner is at the datum level.
A ca. 5 cm pick pass was taken of T-42B's northern extension.
While clearing the pick pass, an unusual terracotta piece was found.
