XIII. CONCLUSION

XIII.  CONCLUSION

The purpose for excavating this area was to search for the existence of non-elite habitation in this area.  The excavation of CB-58 uncovered material that appears, for the most part, to have come from elsewhere due to either erosion or possibly deliberate dumping.  This material could possibly have come from the CA area located immediately across the ancient road, where evidence for human activity has been found during this excavation season.  But with the discovery of two holes to the east of CB-58 in CB-57 (EMO III) and CB-56 (LHS I)., which could possibly be post holes, and the lack of any such feature in CB-55 Ext. (FGT II), located immediately east and adjacent to CB-58, it was decided to investigate the stratigrafy of CB-58 to ascertain how it related to these features.  A sounding was made in the northern sector of the trench that reached a level approximately 50 centimeters below the top height of these holes.  At the bottom of the sounding a fragment of a banqueting frieze plaque was found ( 20120233

).  This indicates that the level at the bottom of the sounding is possibly of archaic date.  Since the top height of the holes is at a higher elevation it is possible that these features are either post-archaic or, if earlier, there is a slope or drop off between them and the area of CB-58.  Further excavation is needed to determine the relationship between these areas.
