The stump in T-54 was removed and the 15-20 cm of dirt underneath was taken down. Very little pottery was found in this cut and one piece of pithos rim which was saved, but not recorded as a find. One piece of frieze plaque cavetto was also recovered.
A 15 cm deep topsoil cut was taken in T/53-54 - the area beyond the stump. The soil was loose, brown, and rooty with frequent pebble-cobble size rocks. A second 30 cm cut brought these meters down to a level 50-55 cm. Approximately 1/3 of a latte box of pottery and 1/3 of a cassette of pan and covertile fragments were found in these cuts. The soil from cir. 40-50 cm became more dense with a red cast.
Continued clearing meters VX/57-58 down to the plaster layer. Small flecks of bronze were found in V/57 and an impasto spindle whorl was found sitting on its narrow end in X/58.
