Introduction

Excavation will begin in an area southwest of T-22, southeast of T-21, and directly north of T-25.  The location of this trench, then, may provide information and material relevant to all of these previous trenches, as well as to the southeast building itself.  Excavation will take place within grids 49-55/Q-X.

First and foremost, the proximity of this trench to T-25 and to the southeast building should answer several questions.  The curious lack of lateral sima from the western end of the southeast building (see CT II ) may be explained.  If the building collapsed to the north, the sima and female heads may have been thrown outside the grids of previously excavated trenches.  Perhaps our cut will come up with these heads.

We might also expect to find large amounts of coarse orangeware pottery similar to that found in T-25 (see CT II ) and T-26 ( MW I , MW II ).  The rest of the canopic mold found by C. Tutt in grid [information not given] may also be encountered as we move north of T-25.

The proximity of this cut to T-22 should further elucidate the stratigraphical relationship between the Upper Building and the Southeast Building if we are able to remove meters 54-56/S-U by one large trench, which will provide us with a continuous stratigraphic section.  Also, the large stone in T-22 (grid 54/R) may be better explained by this season's excavation.

Information relevant to the southern defense wall may be produced from our trench as it is located nearby and southwest of us.
