STRATEGY: Clarify nature of 2479. Establish extent of f's 843, 846, 844. Work concentrated around emerging features at the expense of S.E. quadrant, which wasn't excavated. Clarify stratigraphical relation between f's 846, 841, 844.
SUMMARY: 2479 was not a pit. The stones were removed and may be considered part of 2478. F846 stones extending in circular formation from f841 towards centre of trench: appears to form an "apse" with f841/844. At join of f846 and 841 the edge of a large piece of ?tabular stone projects. Patches of white plastery materrial increasingly visible in NW quadrant on both sides of f846. They lie within the red-brown silt of 2478 which now extends over the northern two-thirds of the trench, 2477 being removed from all but the SE quadrant. In SW quadrant the soil is very loose and sandy, and riddled with animal burrows (2480). F843 now has a corner running east into the section. F841 seen to be lying on a higher soil horizon (2478) and f846, which lies within 2478. This suggests that f841/844 is an addition to an earlier circular structure (f846).
