Pottery analysis

Relatively little pottery was recovered in CA 62 during the 2009 season. Locus 2 contained the most pottery, at 530 sherds. Impasto was the most found type, at 590 sherds. Of the total 769 sherds, 5 were cataloged. The stamped bucchero handle fragment, 20090016

, contributes to the understanding of the deposits in the Civitate A area. It was found to join with 19940168
19940168
from CA 36, which means that these deposits must have been open during the same time period. Because of the join of artifacts from CA 55 ( 20070251
20070251
) and CA 36 ( 19930049
19930049
), it can further be inferred that all three of these deposits were made in the same time period. Coil made pottery, such as 20090234
20090234
, reinforces that the occupation level on Civitate A extends into the Villanovan period. The discovery of Medieval pottery, such as 20090025
20090025
also indicates activity through the Medieval period. Other cataloged finds do not provide any additional information.
