Slag Analysis

Slag Analysis:

A total of 54 pieces of slag, weighing a total of 356 grams,were found in CA-82 during the 2013 excavations season. The overwhelmingmajority of slag was found in Locus 2 , with 40 pieces (74.1%) and 250 grams ofthe overall weight (70.2%) being found there. The second most slag populatedlocus was Locus 5 , with 5 pieces (9.3%) and 50 grams (14%) of the total. Theseare followed by Locus 4 with 4 pieces (7.4%) and 30 grams (8.4%), Locus 8 with2 pieces (3.7%) and 17 grams (4.8%), and Locus 2 with 3 pieces (5.5%) and 9grams (2.5%). There was no slag found in Loci 1 , 3 , or 7 , all of which were topsoil, or in Loci 6 and 9 , which were not excavated and were effectively sterileof artifacts, respectively. No slag pieces were cataloged.
