Strip Delta- Continued in HI-3,4, 0.10 m cut taken down and again 0.05 m +/- until reached dark brown soil of Stratum B. This grid area (HI-34) in Stratum AB is defined to a depth of 0.50-0.45 m below the surface by yellow permeable soil mixed with streaks and pockets of brown.  Relatively few finds.

Piece of bronze

with a piece of bone.  A piece of glass with two impressed designs. 3 tile fragments.

Stratum B:  Strip Epsilon- Continued where left off yesterday afternoon.  General appearance is pinkish-brown soil with flakes of carbon and  yellow soil.  Quite loose. Cut taken 0.15 m +/- in G34. Many pottery sherds: necks and rims, a few foot fragments. Very few bucchero fragments; some buccheroid, impasto and red earthenware- all generally of utilitarian quality.  Altogether 1 box.  Also found were bones including some animal molars with jaw.

One full box of tile fragments. Some tiles had encrustation of slag.

Cut 2

Strat. A/AB: Strip Alpha- Cut 0.25 m through fiststone pavement and stratum AB in a later cut.  Brought down to Stratum B at end of day.  Found chunk of iron in 4E and few (1/2 strawberry box) potsherds and 10 tile fragments.  Stratum AB is very much a substratum here, never exceeding 0.05 m in thickness and in D34 about 0.03 m defined below by dark brown of Stratum B.
