Conclusion

Conclusion

Excavations in T43B were conducted for the purpose of gaining a better sense of the slope south of the workshop.  The anncient slope level was not discovered, as the area below the workshop plateau seemed to be largely erosional wash.  As expected, it consisted of intensely rocky soil with little archaeological remains.  All material was heavily worn, and often unidentifiable.

Recovered material appears to be washout from over the retaining wall, which it was the goal of T43 to locate in this area ( p.5 ).  This feature was revealed almost immediately in T 43 A (SAR III 2005 p. 15 ), just to the north of T 43 B, but no definitive evidence was found to date the wall's construction.

No evidence of a kiln was found.  Although the trench contained many rocks, none appeared archaeologically significant.

The findings in T 43 B do not indicate

the need for further excavation in this area below the wall.  Due to the erosional nature of the soil, finds are highly worn, difficult to identify, and lack proper context.  The discovery of the retaining wall (SAR III 2005 p. 1 ), however, certainly warrants further exploration, and it should be followed to the east.
