Began today by cleaning up the trench in order to declare a new locus over the entire area of the trench. We are clipping back the roots and trimming the baulks before we give the trench a final scrape to fully expose the new locus . While scraping down the trench a lighter brown soil has appeared in the area between the stumps in the eastern most meter of the trench. This soil appears to be the product of bioturbation and we will expose it fully. This pocket of soil did not extend any further and was clearly the result of bioturbation. The new soil that was uncovered yesterday has now been uncovered across the entire trench and will be declared a locus 2 . Locus 2 consists of a very claylike soil that is a medium olive brown and has some very small white flecks in it. The new locus has a large amount of organic material and outcroppings of bedrock in the northeastern corner of the trench. The new locus does not appear to have an increase in material.
