Tile: 8

Pottery: 3

In order to more quickly define the boundries of the terracotta/mortar floor and recover the unique architectural artifacts being found, T26-1982 will be expanded to the west.  The territory west of meter 65 will be excavated by Gary Dunham and shall be recorded and discussed in GD Book II .  The territory east of meter 65 shall be continued to be recorded and discussed in this book, MT book V and perhaps in a forthcoming book.  The area west of meter 65 shall be continued to be designated T26-1982.  Refer to GD Book II and MT Books V , VI, and perhaps VII for a total report of the T26 area this season.

The 30 cm cut was continued to the west into meters R,S,T-67.  The soil was slowly and carefully checked in wheelbarrows.  The soil remained as yesterday- red-brown with specks of carbon and plaster.  Ivory was not found, so work was speeded and hte cut continued westward.

The tile layer at c. 80 cm. in M,N,O-77-79 was lifted.  The tile amounted to 4 cassette

which are included in today's tile count.

The stone packing in M,N,O-80-82 was brushed for photographing.

The unfired cover tiles in U,V-70 at c. 50 cm were uncovered and were cleaned down with mestaline.

Meter T-74, at 40 cm, was taken to floor level.  The soil was carefully checked for ivory.  The soil was mainly yellow-grey.

The 30 cm cut was completed through R,S,T-65-69.  The soil remained as described earlier.  The cut is actually closer to 40 cm along the northern face of the extension.  The 30 cm cut was continued, this time to the east into meters R,S,T-70.  This soil was carefully checked for ivory.  None was found.

The unfired cover tiles in U,V-70 at c. 50 cm were recovered with sand.

P.M.

Work was confined to the Magazino this afternoon.
