Introduction

The 1990 excavation of meters K-L-M-N/63-70 in Tesoro Trench 26 was left incomplete (See NM Bk III 1990).  As a result, the excavation of this portion of the trench will be completed in the 1992 season.  When work on this area was halted in 1990, the meters K-L-M-N763-64 had been excavated to the level of the Southeast Building.  Meters K-L(M)/69-70 remained slightly above SouthEast Building floor level.  The meters K-L(M)/65-66 were left at 75-85 cm b.d.*

Of these areas, those not fully excavated to the level of the floor of the SouthEast Building will be taken down to that level.  When this is completed over the whole area, we may decide to excavate below the floor level of the Southeast Building.

Our primary goal in completing excavation in this area is to further investigate the large quantities of both coarse and fine orange wares and red ware ceramics which have been found in the area of K-L-M-N/65-71 at a depth of circa 80-115 cm.

It is also possible that we will encounter architectural elements of the Southeast Building roofing structure.

If the decision is made to excavate below the floor level of the Southest Building, then it is possible that we will encounter elements of habitation level predating that of the one associated with the Southeast Building.

*Note: depths in NM Bk III were taken at a datum level 24 cm above ground level

Notes:

The dump for this remaining portion of T-26 K-L(M)/63-70 will be located down the slope of the hill.

Depths will be recorded as centimeters below surface level, determined by means of a line level and measuring tape.

Gridding T-26:

In the years preceeding the 1989 season, miscalculations of the grid plan for T-26 were made.  One result of these miscalculations is a distortion along the L-M line.  As one moves east from L/64, by L/71, approx. 50 cm of meter M exists.  In 1990, this probelm was compensated for my labeling finds from the excess area of meter M as L(M).  For the sake of consistency, this will be continued in 1992.

In excavation of meters to the ewast of L/71, this problem will recur and should be noted.

See NM Bk III p.V for a fuller treatment of this problem.
