No work in A.M. Too wet
P.M.
Began excavation with mestilinas in meters L(M)/67-65 and removed approximately 7-10 cm. of soil of about half of all of these meters. The remaining portion of meter L(M)/64 as well as a small portion of L(M)/65 exhibit darker brown soil and produce less pottery than the area to the immediate west. Interestingly, a similar area of darker brown soil was noticed in the western half of L(M)/67. The excavation of L(M)/68 on July 1 also produced soil at this level which was orangy brown, like the soil between the two areas of darker brown soil. This suggests that the darker brown soil is a feature possibly in the form of two depressions running parallel in the soil. This is consistent with the areas of tile lines noted in previous excavations. Four objects from the area between the areas of darker brown soil, (thus, from the orangy soil) were made finds. These include:
A large fragment of an orangeware lid (#1), 2 pieces of worked bone (#2 and #3) and a small portion of an orangeware strap handle (#4).
Approximately 1/2 a latte box of pottery was found in meters L(M)/65-66, most of which was found in the area of the orangy brown soil. Along with this was a rather high concentration of bronze and vitrified material. About 1/4 a cassette of tile and plates was found.
The excavation of L(M)/67 produced about 1/8 a latte box of pottery, 1/2 a cassette of tile and plaster and only a few flakes of bronze.
