STRATEGY: Prepare f887 for photography and remove contents as 2733. Continue excavation of 2591 in SE quadrant. Complete drawing of W section. Complete excavation of 2594.

SUMMARY: Drawing of W section completed. F887 (small installation adjacent to W section) photographed and contents removed. 2 workmen completed excavation of 2594 (midden in SE corner) and went at 2591 in SE quadrant with large pick. After c.15cm had been removed a difference in quality and contents of soil became apparent at c. 530.5 (E), 500-504.5 (N). To the East of this "divide" 2591 continued unchanged (i.e. red-brown packed clayey sitl), and extended further towards the S section at its easternmost extent to the west, the fill contained inclusions of ash, mudbrick, and scatters of sherds and bone (=2734). With further excavation, it emerged that a line of large stones, firmly embedded within 2591, ran along the line of this divide (=f891).
