The boundaries of CB-53 were laid out by a baseline extended from 55 S, initially laid out using a baseline shot with the transit off the grid point PC 1 and a second baseline extending from it at a ninety degree angle. Using triangulation a four by four meter trench was established with the northwest corner at a location of 54E/49S.

The coordinates of the four corners of CB-53 at thestart of the 2012 season are as follows:

NW corner: 54E/49S

NE corner: 58E/53S

SE corner: 58E/53S

SW corner: 54E/53S

A datum point with an absolute elevation of 27.26 meters was established on a tree along the north wall of CB-53.
