Conclusion

Conclusion

T-71 was opened for the following reasons:

1. To determine whether the northern linear rock feature found in T-57 in 2014 continues westward.

2. To search for a north-south running return wall, connecting the northern linear rock feature in T-57 with the southern linear rock feature in T-59, 65, 66, and 69.

3. To determine whether these linear rock features form one structural unit.

4. To search for a possible floor surface associated with the potential structural unit.

5. To securely date the potential new structure.

T-71 failed to meet any of these goals. The northern linear rock feature found in T-57 in 2014 did not continue westward; rather, the northwest corner of this new building was found in T-57, where the northern linear rock feature met up with a western wall found in T-70, located to the southeast of T-71. Therefore, no walls were located within T-71. Correspondingly, no floor surface was found within the trench. Consequently,

no finds found within the trench could be securely associated with the new building and so cannot aid in the building's dating. Few materials were recovered from T-71 and none are chronologically diagnostic. Instead, sterile soil was found throughout the trench approximately 20 cm below surface. This sterile soil is likely galestra and may be associated with bedrock exposed just to the north of the trench, in T-72 and T-73.

The one notable feature of the trench is a small rock packing, located in the trench's northeast corner. While these rocks are loose and not bedrock, they project outward into bedrock in T-57 and T-72. Therefore, they do not appear to be architectural.

Little information, other than that relating to geology, was gained from this trench.

Closing coordinates for T-71 are:

  • NW corner: 86E/34S
  • NE corner: 89 E/34S
  • SE corner: 89 E/37S
  • SW corner: 86E/37S
