Introduction
Tesoro Trench will be excavated again in 1990. Proposed means of excavation are intially mater K/L(M)/65-70. As with the 1989 season, a primary objective of these excavations is a further investigation ofthe quantities of red wine, fine and otherwise, athat have been revealed circa 80-115 cm below ground level in meters of the 65-71 range.
As the 1989 excavations did not reveal important evidence relating to the destruction of the southeast building , nor important architectural material relevant to that building, it is not expected that 1990 excations will either.
Rather, as Tesoro Trench 26 moves away from the southeast building, one excation is the possbile discovery of a distinct structure, placed between the Upper Building
and the southeast building.
Another concern of the 1990 excavations in Tesoro Trench 26 is the careful investigation of the three parallel lines of pithos and tile fragments that have appeared in the meters M-R . The possibility that these linear concentrations continue to the north is very intriguing.
A final and signifigant concern is the continued investigation of the burn layer which is founf at approxiamately 1 meter below surfave level over meters 65-71. That this may be related the the southeast builing , as well as the fact that signifigant quantities of pottery are found in this layer, continue to make is an important part our study.
Lastly, though as noted above the architectual evidence has been minimal, we mayyet encounter sima from a wall collapse.
Notes:
Dumps used in previous years will again be used and located west/southwest of the excavated area, on the slope of the hill.
As before, depths will be recoreded as centimeters below the surface level, calcualted by means of a line level and tape rule.
In contrast to previous years, attempts will be made to do preliminary sorting of pottery by ware, as well as preliminary attempts at jaoining fragmants. A more mteiculous work in depths beyond 80cm b.s.l. should help facilitate this.
