Tile 1+
Plaster .75
Pottery 1 latte
We clean the floor of yesterday's cut to expose more of the light tile fall or deposit in P 86-89 and the rock concentration in O 68-69, which is fairly substantial. In both cases one encounters a change in the soil, which becomes a bit looser though still clayey and is laden with yellow, and espeically pinkish orange material, some in large bits (plaster); also carbonized matter in small quantities and two bits of bronze appear. We shall clean down to this stratum and remove the tiles and rocks which tend to mark its appearance before exploring this material. From just below the floor of yesterday's cut in O 88 comes another fragment of fine, convex-fluted bucchero ( supra p 41). Also near the rocks, but further down, in O 87 a large plaster fragment (No. 1). Pottery is scant but includes heavy and lighter impasto pot fragments, handles (stap, tubular, and double - the last in bucchero). Numerous smal fragments of tile and plaster appear and a few bits of bone.
13 June, afternoon
W devote the afternoon to stripping protective soil covering the unbaked tiles and column-bases in S-Z 70-73. The group of tiles in V-W 73 is now exposed, and the plastic and column bases along the area's north and west edges. No finds recorded.
