Today work continued on the well in CA42 where stone and tile were removed from the "aperture" down to the excavated level in order to create an inside section and to retrieve the tile fragments The stones in the top part of the fall were large (four of them more than 50cm in length). After the stones were removed the rest of the well shaft was filled with tile fragments which were vertical at first and arranged more horizontally towards the bottom. The fragments were large which indicates that probably complete tiles where thrown into the well. There appears to be fragments of one ridge pole tile, one cover tile and six or seven cover tiles (several different kinds of flanges were distinguished).
As tile fragments were lifted they were layed out on the ground and joints were found. All of the tile was bought down into the magazzino in order to be restored. Shape, thickness and general appearance of the tile fragments suggests that they most probably date from the archaic phase of the habitation of the site. It appears that time of well destruction is contemporary with the destruction of the archaic complex.
The soil within aperture of the well, designated locus 23 and having light olive brown color (2.5Y 5/4) and extremely clayey consistency also contained 5 bones, 3 creamware, 2 grayware, 2 bucchero, 2 orangeware, 10 impasto, and 6 coarseware fragments.
In CA42N bedrock and sterile soil was reached at a depth of about 160cm b.d. Flat sheets of bedrock were uncovered at the bottom of locus 16, which seem to be the floor of the "feature" since 3 almost complete vessels were found in N13 W9 almost directly on bedrock. Two of the vessels are bowls and despite fragmentary nature present complete profiles. Third vessel, a large ring-based shape of yellow impasto was found in an area that positions it almost exactly in the middle of and underneath the stone formation. Locus 16 also produced 17 bone fragments, \xbd latte box of pottery and 2 pieces of plaster. Also more work was done in locus 15, under the stump.
9 impasto, 3 bone fragments and a small part of flaked spindle whorl were found. Sterile soil and bedrock were given designation locus 17.
