A.M.
A roughly 10 cm cut was made in meters L(M)/66 and K/66. This cut brought the level of the trench in these meters down to 75-80 cm b.s. A 10 cm cut was initiated in meter K/65, but not finished. The soil in these meters is unchanged dark/medium brown is small inclusions of plaster and carbon.
One full cassette of tile was removed from K-L(M)/66 along with about 30 small pieces of plaster. Approximately 1/2 a latte box of pottery was taken from meter L(M)/66 while 1/2 a latte of pottery was excavated from K/66. Most of this pottery is impasto and coarseware with some orangeware and infrequent finds of bucchero. A substantial amount of bronze was found in both meters. The pieces were usually small or flakes.
Several finds were excavated from meters K0L(M)/66
notable were a bronze rivet [L(M)/66], several pieces of worked bone from K/66 and an unusual metalix substance which may be lead or silver from K/66.

P.M.
The cut in meter K/65 was completed. This brings this area down to circa 75-80 cm b.s. Interestingly, a pocket of lighter brown soil was noticed in most of this area. The soil had less carbon and plaster in it and produced much less material. When this cut was extended into L(M)/65 the soil returned to its dark color and produced more material. Approximately 3/4 of a latte box of pottery was removed from this meter with about 1/2 a cassette of tile. Bone and small scattered flakes of bronze were also found. 2 moulded rims were found in this cut, one long (#15) and one small (#16) as well as a ring base with a notched foot (#17) and a piece of vitrifed material. (#18)
With the completion of the cut over the 4 meters of K-L(M)/65-66, a new cut was initiated in meter K/66 but remaines incomplete. The soil remained the smae dark brown with plaster and carbon traces as was noted in meter K/66 previously.
Although the cut in this meter is incomplete several large tile fragments have already been
exposed in this meter. Found very close to the surface level of the trench in this dark brown soil was a portion of terracotta statue (#19) in 3 joining parts. Also already removed from this meter was a moulded strap handle and the tim of a small lid. When this meter is finished, a total amount of pottery and tile removed will be recorded.
