Daily Log

June 5, 1978

T-17 was extended two meters to the west from the excavation of 1977 by a rectangular strip 2m. (E-W) x 5m (N-S) [for diagram see opposite page; for previous excavation in the area see specifically E. Nielsen Book I p.120 -195 and J McCallum Book II pp. 20-130 , and references there].  The designation and grid system adopted will be that used by E. Nielsen.  T-17 extends to the north through "P."  The following meter begins NT with "A."  The numbered meters remain the same as for T-17.

The cut taken today in J-L 0-1 leaves the east face of a wall, battered to the west, with large stones slumped across the trench to the western side [see E. Nielsen Book II, p. 253 for profile of J 0-9, similar construction].  The tree in M 0-1 was left in place; M-N 0-1 was cleared simultaneously, contacting heavy stones, irregularly placed, immediately below gound level.
