Introduction
During the final weeks of excavation in the 2001 serason, it was decided to reinvestigate the area of the northern tripartite structure known as Tesoro 18 will be opened and a trench will be dropped on the wested side of the wested end wall of the structure in meters 30.5-35N/170-173E.
The primary goal for excavation in this location is to obtain a stratigraphic section of the soil around and under the structure in an attempt to better understand the structure's association to the . This section may also be useful as a comparison to the section obtained from T9 this season and may help date the wall located in that area as well. In addition, T-18 may find evidence for additional structures along the northern terrace of Piano del Tesoro and clarify questions concerning features unearthed during previous excavations in the area.
For more information concerning previous excavation in the area of Tesoro 18, see ERI, JNI, JNII, JNIII, GWIII, and DNII. For information concerning excavations in the area of the northern tripartite structure in general; also see ENII,
JMII (Jeff McCallum), ABI; GWIV, and GWV. Tesoro 18 will be placed on the master grid system this season. For information concerning the establishment of the master grid, see NMIV pg 1-5; TTI pg 3-5; JBIV pg 1-5. Terracotta and plaster will be measured in cassette (50cm x 34cm x 9cm). Pottery will be quantified by latti cartons ( 16cm x 9cm x 5cm). Depths will be measured below datum, which mean below a fixed point established for the trench.
