Site Summary
T30E produced only a limited amount of material from the Archaic period, most notably, a fragment on gorgon hair. Evidence for activity in the Orientalizing period (equivalent to locus 5) was greater, with larger numbers of pottery recovered. In addition, three rocchetti and two spindle whorls were recorded which indicate weaving activity, not surprising given T30E's proximity to the workshop.
Interestingly, very little terracotta was found at any point in the excavation season. A larger amount of plaster was recovered at the Orientalizing level, particularly to the west of the line of rocks that ran down the middle of the trench.
Although another large, flat stone was not found in T30E as had been hoped, the rock line seems to be clearly man-made and may indicate the existence of a low or temporary wall. Interestingly, a line of smaller rocks had been found running N-S at the same location approximately 30 cm above.
If a building does in fact exist in the T30 area, then this rock line may indicate some sort of small architectural structure associated with it. Further proof of this might exist if it can be shown that there is a relationship between this line of rocks and those found in T30D and T26.
