Trench Layout

T 71 is a 3x3 meter trench located in the southwestern corner of the Piano del Tesoro. The northern boundary of the trench was shot using a transit and is part of a baseline for the 2015 excavation area, running along the latitudinal line 34S on the master grid; this line also forms the southern boundary of T 72 ( PAM I ). The southern boundary of the trench was triangulated and is also the northern boundary of T 70 ( MVS I ). The coordinates of the trench are as follows:

\xb7 NE corner: 89E/34S

\xb7 SE corner: 89E/37S

\xb7 SW corner: 86E/37S

A datum point with an absolute elevation of 27.57 meters on the master grid has been established and will be used by T 71, along with T 70 and 72. It is situated on a tree to the south of the trench.

T 71 is adjacent to trench T 72 to the north, T 70 to the south, and T 57 from 2014 to the east. Although located due west of T 57, in laying out trenches in 2015, we discovered an error of approximately 1 degree in the 2014 baselines, which

manifested itself as a discrepancy of approximately 20cm across all 2014 trenches. Therefore, the eastern boundary of T 71 may be extended slightly to the east to remove all soil between T 71 and T 57. Any materials recovered from this section will be considered a part of T 71.
