Opening Elevations Locus IV :

Excavation began with a pick through the 3 meter by 1 meter extent of Locus IV . Large architectural terracotta, pottery and small amounts of bone are coming up in the picked dirt. Once the loose dirt from the pick was cleared, a second pick was done through the same area. While clearing the dirt, a piece of worked stone (Special Find #1) was found.

Locus IV

After the loose dirt was cleared away, another pick was completed through the same 3 meter by 1 meter extent. Methodology remains the same as previously- dirt will be picked with a pickaxe. The soil will then be shoveled into buckets and sorted by hand in a wheelbarrow. Once the loose dirt was cleared, another pick was completed through the same extent. Large architectural terracotta continues to come up with the picked dirt. Another pick was conducted through the same section. Rocks began to become present throughout the northern section of the extension. While sorting the dirt, a sherd of perforated pottery (Special Find #2) was found.

Locus IV

It was decided that T-66 will extend one meter to the north, following the 4 meter horizontal west to east extent of the rest of the trench. Excavation of Locus IV continued while the area that will be the extension was cleared. Another pick was thrown in Locus IV measuring 3 meters by 1 meter. While clearing, an impressed piece of plaster (Special Find #3) was found.

Locus IV

Once the loose dirt was cleared, another pick was completed through the same section. While clearing loose dirt, a sherd of Medieval pottery (Special Find #4) was found.

Locus IV

Excavation was halted because of rain.
