Continuing to level trench by picking and sorting north-eastern section.  Large numbers of rocks concentrated in that corner.  In addition, three medium-sized rocks have appeared in a loose line running north-south in the southern portion of the trench; the line is continued through the northern portion with slightly smaller stones, as well as stones in the NE corner.

Trench now level with plain of workshop area, and T26 baulk wall completely taken down.  It has been decided not to extend trench to complete the final southern meter because of a lack of time.

Instead, trench will be taken down below modern plainof workshop area from the point of the previous T26 baulk wall.

Pick pass begun on western portion of trench.  Soil yielding much more plaster than previously, and in much larger pieces, also finding larger quanitites of pottery.

Pick pass of eastern portion of trench to level with western side.  Soil exhibiting much less

plaster on eastern side--hardly any at all.  This is markedly different from the soil on the western side of the rocks.

Elevations were taken in preparation to begin one final pick pass through trench:

NW corner: 192.3 cm bd

NE corner: 189.6 cm bd

SW corner: 189.4 cm bd

SE corner: 185.1 cm bd

P.M.

What will likely be final pick pass was begun in western half of trench.  Soil becoming much blacker with more carbon, though still with inclusions of plaster and terracotta; markedly less plaster, however, than in previous pick pass.

Pick pass completed on eastern half of trench as well, though at a slightly higher elevation; it was not possible to pick as deeply because of the number of rocks.  Soil on the eastern side still characteristic of locus 5, not becoming dark or exhibiting a large amount of carbon.

Thus far the line of rocks has been left intact.  They will be trowelled and diagrammed

tomorrow, and then possibly removed, depending on their depth within the trench.

For the day, collected 3 bowls of terracotta and plaster (overwhelmingly plaster), 1 small fragment of bronze from the western baulk wall, 155 sherds of pottery, 14 pieces of bone.
