Established meter points at 176E 57S, 176E 60S, 178E 57S, 178E 60S.  The final southern meter extends into space, beyond the eroded wall of T26.

Opening elevations:

NW corner: 87.3 cm bd

NE corner: 89.6 cm bd

SW corner at 59S: 95 cm bd

SE corner at 59S: 95.5 cm bd

center: 93.8 cm bd

Note: elevations taken at 59S rather than 60S since that meter extends into T26.

Began first cut, soil loose and dark brown.  Recorded Find #1, numerous small fragments of medieval pottery.

P.M.

Continued first pass in southern half of trench.  Found several more fragments of medieval pottery, most likely all part of same vessel and included in Find #1.  Found a small handful of terracotta, 47 small fragments of orangeware, 2 fragments of coarseware, 1 small fragment of creamware.

Closing elevations:

NW corner: 93.4 cm bd

Ne corner: 94.4 cm bd

SW corner at 59S: 95.8 cm bd

SE corner at 59S: 96.8 cm bd.

Note: Unless otherwise noted, all closing and opening elevations labelled "SW corner" and "SE corner" will be taken at 59S.
