Locus 1
We began excavation on the southern boundary of the trench with a 2 M long pick pass towards the north.
The soil is dark, grey-brown in color and contains natural inclusions of roots.
There are a lot of pieces of terracotta popping up along the southern boundary of the trench. Within the first meter of the trench, we have filled almost a full bowl of terracotta.
A second pick pass was made in the southern half of the trench.

A third pick pass was made beginning in the center of the trench and peeling 2 M back to the northern boundary of the trench.
There are more terracotta pieces emerging in the southern part of the trench.
There is a higher concentration of root rot in the northern area of the trench.
