Introduction
In the 2003 season, a trench designated T30 was situated between trenches T22 (see pgs. 115-117 of AGG/CNT I ). This finding implies that there may possibly be another pavilion-style architectural structure on the Orientalizing period plateau adjacent to the workshop.
) and T26 (see , , and ) in order to determine if there was a relationship between the two large flat stones situated in the 7th century Orientalizing layer of each trench (see ). The trench revealed a portion of a large flat stone in the northwest corner with a debris pile of stones and terracotta tiles left in situ atop it (seeThe 2004 season will excavate the area surrounding T30 and create a continuous stratigraphic record between T22 and T26. This entire area will be designated T30 and the various trenches will be distinguished by their coordinates.
T30 182-185E/52-(54.6-55.3)E is situated at the southeast corner of the original T30 trench and will remove the southern portion of the west baulk wall of T26. The purpose of the placement of this trench is to further investigate the locations of similar stones in order to more securely determine the extent of a possible structure. Additional goals for the trench include revealing the destruction horizons relating to the Archaic building and hte southern courtyard as well as looking for any possible
correlations with the tile lines uncovered to the south of this trench (see TT II and III).
NOTES:
The dumpsite for this trench is located to the southwest and is immediately south of the Orientalizing workshop (see
). The tile dump is directly northeast of T26 (see and ). The datum point is located on a tree situated at approximately 184.5E/50.5S (see ). The elevation of this point is 28.59m above sea level. Tile will be quantified in bowls (approximately 22 cm [average diameter] x 9 cm [height] / V=3419.46 cm^3) and pottery will be measured in latte boxes (approximately 16 x 9 x 5 cm).Descriptive Attribute | Value(s) |
