Backfill was removed from NOP/91-92 over the area covered with plastic bags in 1985.  This area varied in depth from floor level and a sunken column base to the top of a tile and rock area at about 10cm below surface level.  This area was left unexcavated in 1985 due to lack of time and was thus kept separate.  Part of the fill over the floor in NO/90 adjacent to this area was also taken up.  The floor appeared in good condition.  Minimal amounts of material were recovered from the fill.  Then work began excavating the tile, plaster and rock area.  One cassetta of tile, 1/2 of plaster and several large pithos fragments were removed as well as about 1/3 box of mixed, fairly worn pottery.  Plaster was in chunks with occasional amounts disintegrated in the soil.  Pithos was reserved.

JK/91-92 was begun to be cleared to floor level.  A heavy black burn layer was evident in K/90-91 along the north edge of the base moving east.  Fine pottery (see Finds 1 and 2) was found embedded in this stratum but no floor as yet.  The tile and plaster layer above it yielded 2 cassette of tile and 2 of plaster, some in large chunks.  Those large chunks with flat edges were reserved on the side of the trench.  Multiple pithos fragments including rim were found and saved to look for joins.  About 2/3 box of mixed pottery was found.  Several fragments of a ridgepole were also found.  The soil above the burn layer was yellowish and loose in texture from disintigrated plaster.  Low down a few pieces of burned and bitrified tile and plaster were found.  The burn stratum was wet from heavy rains Sunday.
